Treatment Philosophy
For more than 35 years, I have witnessed many different dental issues among my patients. I have always believed that my fellow practitioners and I shared the same over-arching philosophies concerning these types of dental problems. However, I now realize that our approach to diagnosis and treatment are quite different.
Almost weekly, treatment plans are presented to my office by patients seeking a second opinion to treatment plans recommended by another dentist. While these plans may be valid, it is startling to see the number of treatment plans that are quite aggressive. For example, one dentist might recommend that a patient should have seven cavities filled while I might recommend that only three of the cavities need filling, and the other four should be monitored to see if they improve or worsen.
I think about the trust I place in my physician, veterinarian, or car mechanic. That same fair, honest service I expect from them is exactly what we intend to give our patients. For years, we have told our patients that the best kind of dentist is an honest, conservative dentist, and this has always been our policy.
This is the Londrey Family Dental treatment philosophy: We believe in treating our patients’ dental needs in a conservative, judgement-free manner. To the patients with healthy teeth and gums, we want to keep it that way. To the patients with discomforts and concerns, we strive to find solutions that will bring relief and satisfaction for the long term. We work to fix problems that have developed over the years without judgement of past care. Ultimately, it is our goal to educate patients and help them establish habits that will prevent future problems.
